California’s Avenged Sevenfold are returning to Australian shores for a national tour in July, with support from Sevendust

Avenged Sevenfold have been through a lot since their last Australian tour in 2008. In December 2009, the electric Californian five-piece had started work on the album of their lives when drummer and lifelong friend, Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan passed away. The album was already shaping up to be a dark masterpiece. A concept album tracing a journey of madness, despair and death, but suddenly real life – and real loss – rendered that almost trivial.

Ironically, this renewed pain and passion only contributed to the success of the band’s fifth studio album Nightmare, which took a new direction following The Rev’s passing. The album, which documented and dealt with his death, went on to debut at #1 on the USA’s Billboard 200 and #9 on our own ARIA album chart.

The album’s title track became the most played track at Active Rock Radio (US) for an entire year in 2010. Most recently, Avenged Sevenfold fans crashed the MTV server with the amount of traffic generated when the band released their new video ‘So Far Away’. The third single off the certified gold album, Nightmare, ‘So Far Away’ is described as a “raw and emotional tribute” which “celebrates the long-time friendship the band members have shared since forming A7X”.

Renewed and refocussed, the band have been perfecting their live show in sold out arenas across the US and are about to hit the Euro festival circuit to headline Rock Am Ring in Germany, Download Festival in the UK and Graspop in Belgium, before heading to Australia.

It’s been three years, but now Avenged Sevenfold return to Australia for a gargantuan headlining tour. Joining A7X on this run of shows will be the almighty American metal act Sevendust whose performance at this year’s Soundwave Festival and associated sideshows blew Australian metal fans away.

Touring off the back of their last album Cold Day Memory, Sevendust boast an original line-up with Clint Lowery on lead guitar, restoring the unbeatable dynamic that was responsible for their most successful albums.
